On October 8, 2019, California Governor Newsom signed CA Assembly Bill 1482 into law with an effective date of January 1, 2020. This new law affects:
- how much on a percentage basis a Landlord may increase rents over the course of a 12 month period by establishing State mandated “rent caps”
- how and on what basis a tenancy may be terminated
- when tenant relocation assistance is required for terminated tenancies
NOTE: certain forms of property ownership provide exemptions to the requirements of this law.
Appended below is a Q&A detailed synopsis of the new law, which describes: how you are affected, whether or not you are exempt, and what you need to do to comply with this new law. If you have additional specific questions, it is suggested that you contact your attorney 🙂
